Email Scams Explained: What is Spamming, Spoofing, and Phishing? (2025 PH Guide)

Maraming Pinoy ang araw-araw nakakatanggap ng suspicious emails — mula sa “nanalo ka ng iPhone” hanggang sa “urgent delivery update.”
Pero paano mo malalaman kung scam nga ba?

Let’s break it down, TechBarkads!

1. What is Email Spamming?

Ito yung massive sending of unwanted emails — usually promos, fake sales, or sketchy websites.
Minsan harmless, minsan may dalang malware.

Common signs:

  • Subject lines na “Congratulations! You won!”

  • May mga sobrang mura na offers

  • May random attachment or link

What to do:

  • Don’t open attachments

  • Don’t click suspicious links

  • Mark as Spam agad

2. What is Email Spoofing?

Ito yung ginagaya ang email address ng isang legit na company or person — pero scammer pala ang nasa likod.

Example:
support@faceb00k.com or billing@paypal.phishing.com

Common signs:

  • Slight spelling errors sa email address

  • May urgency: “Your account will be suspended”

  • Nagtatanong ng personal info or password

What to do:

  • Hover over the email address — check real domain

  • Never give info through email

  • Report it as phishing

3. What is Email Phishing?

Ito na ang pinaka-dangerous.
Phishing emails try to steal your password, bank info, or identity.
Gumagawa sila ng fake login pages, or sinasabing i-verify mo ang account mo.

Common signs:

  • “Click here to verify your account”

  • Mukhang galing sa bank, GCash, PayPal, etc.

  • May deadline or threat para magmadali ka

What to do:

  • Never enter passwords from email links

  • Go directly to the official site

  • Use 2FA para kahit malaman nila password mo, di ka agad ma-hack

BONUS: How to Spot Scam Emails Fast

âś… Check the sender’s email — hindi lang pangalan
âś… Hanapin kung may spelling/grammar issues
✅ Don’t trust too-good-to-be-true offers
âś… Legit companies rarely ask for sensitive info via email
✅ Use Gmail’s “Report phishing” option

Conclusion

Scammers are getting smarter — pero mas techy na rin dapat tayong mga Pinoy.
Kung email ang ginamit, tandaan: double check before you click.
And if in doubt, wag mag-reply — i-report agad.

Share this post sa family or coworkers mo — lalo na kung may hindi techy sa kanila!
